NOTICE
If any indicator illuminates during engine
operation, stop the engine immediately.
Determine the cause and repair the problem
before you continue to operate the engine.
If the alarm window with audible alarm fails
to display and go out about three seconds
later when the ignition switch is in the ON
position, see your authorized Yamar marine
dealer or distributor for service before
operating the engine.
Observe the following environmental
operating conditions to maintain engine
performance and avoid premature engine
wear:
• Avoid operating in extremely dusty
conditions.
• Avoid operating in the presence of
chemical gases or fumes.
• NEVER run the engine if the ambient
temperature is above +40°C (+104°F) or
below -16°C (+5°F).
• If the ambient temperature e40°C
(+104°F), the engine may overheat and
cause the engine oil to break down.
• If the ambient temperature is below -16°C
(+5°F), rubber components such as
gaskets and seals will harden causing
premature engine wear and damage.
• Contact your authorized Yanmar marine
engine dealer or distributor if the engine
will be operated outside of this standard
temperature range.
NEVER engage the starter motor while the
engine is running. Damage to the starter
motor pinion and / or ring gear will result.
STARTING THE ENGINE
NOTICE: If the vessel is equipped with a
water lift (water lock) muffler, excessive
cranking could cause sea water to enter the
cylinders and damage the engine. If the
engine does not start after cranking for 10
seconds, close the thru-hull water intake
valve to avoid filling the muffler with water.
Crank for 10 seconds or until the engine
starts. When the engines does start, stop the
engine immediately and press the switch to
the OFF position.
1. Open the seacock (if equipped).
2. Open the fuel cock.
3. Turn the battery master switch (if
equipped) ON.
4. Put remote control handle in NEUTRAL.
5. Ensure lanyard is connected to
emergency stop switch.
6. Attach lanyard to clothing.
7. Turn key switch to ON. Ensure that the
instrument panel indicators are
powered and working. CAUTION!
NEVER hold the key in the START
position for longer than 10 seconds
or the starter motor will overheat.
8. Turn key switch to START. Release the
key switch when the engine has started.
Note: Once the engine has started, the ECU
will raise the engine speed to 1080 rpm to
start alternator charging, and then reduce to
low idle rpm.
