9. Remove the three M4 bolts (Figure 11-9, (1))
securing the bearing retainer assembly
(Figure 11-9, (2)) to the gear housing. Remove
the bearing retainer assembly from the gear
housing.

10. Remove the pinion clutch assembly
(Figure 11-9, (3)) from the bearing retainer
assembly.
11. Using a flat-blade screwdriver, remove the
retaining ring (Figure 11-10, (1)) from the shaft
of the pinion.

12. Disassemble the pinion stop
(Figure 11-11, (3)), return spring
(Figure 11-11, (4)), pinion clutch assembly
(Figure 11-11, (1)), and pinion shaft
(Figure 11-11, (5)).

Armature
Commutator Surface Inspection
If the commutator surface is rough, polish the
surface with a #500 to #600 emery cloth
(Figure 11-12).

Measure Commutator Outside Diameter
Measure the commutator outside diameter
(Figure 11-13). Replace the armature if the
measurement is less than the limit.
