CHECKING AND ADJUSTING THE STEERING HEAD

d. Check the steering head for looseness or
binding by turning the front fork all the way
in both directions. If any binding is felt,
remove the lower bracket and check the
upper and lower bearings.
Refer to “STEERING HEAD” in chapter 7.
e. Install the rubber washer.
f. Install the center ring nut.
g. Finger tighten the center ring nut
, then
align the slots of both ring nuts. If neces-
sary, hold the lower ring nut and tighten the
center ring nut until their slots are aligned.
h. Install the lock washer .
NOTE:
Make sure the lock washer tabs a sit correctly
in the ring nut slots b .
i. Hold the lower and center ring nuts with a
ring nut wrench and tighten the upper ring
nut with a steering nut wrench.
5. Install:
• legshield
• front middle cowling
• front upper cowling

75Nm (7.5 m • kg)
Lower ring nut (final tightening tor-
que)
6.5 Nm (0.65 m • kg)
