Top Option mounting plate
For more advanced mounting requirements, a custom top plate is available
which provides a wide variety of mounting points to allow complex
combinations, such as a Lantern with a St Andrews Special Mark cross that
denotes the buoy is a special purpose monitoring station, or a Lantern with a
top mounted weather sensor.

Ai1BUOY Bird Spike Kit
The latest model of the bird spike kit includes three strips of polycarbonate spikes and a set of M3 screws to mount
to the top of the Ai1. This model improves over the earlier spring-steel construction with better panel coverage and
corrosion resistance for salt-water locations. These bird spikes are only suitable for Ai1BUOY
’
s with serial numbers
from 35,000 onwards, which have the six threaded holes in the top for mounting the spikes. Refer to Figure 20 for
the M3 screws mounting the spikes along the top of each panel.
Earlier spring-steel bird spike kit
The bird spike kit is fitted on the top of the Ai1 using the preinstalled M6 countersunk screws arranged on a 100mm
x 100mm grid. A total of 9 spikes are fitted to each plastic strip (as shown in Figure 21), to cover each end, and allow
for the lantern to fit in between (as shown in Figure 22). The strips must be aligned correctly, or the bolts holding
the Ai1 top lid sealed will not be accessible. The correct alignment is to leave the logo uncovered, as shown in Figure
21. The spikes in the kit are made from spring steel which will have surface corrosion in salt-water environments
and may need to be replaced periodically. A polycarbonate bird spike option for the 27W system is available for high
corrosion environments.
