Dead Engine Towing
Parking Brake Release (Front Axle)
Warning
Block all four wheels. Failure to do so could result in
death or serious injury from vehicle roll away.
1.
Block all four wheels to prevent the vehicle from
moving once the parking brake is disabled
2.
Position the towing vehicle in place Attach any chain
needed to secure the disabled vehicle
3.
Crawl under the front of the vehicle Locate the four
brake release bolts (two bolts per side) at the base of
the front axle
4.
Loosen jam nuts Loosen brake release bolts Do not
completely remove bolts Tighten 1 full turn if bolts
completely back out (repeat for each side) Tighten
jam nuts
5.
Crawl out from under the vehicle and clear the area of
any unnecessary personnel
6.
Crawl out from under the vehicle and clear the area of
any unnecessary personnel
7.
Carefully remove the blocking from each of the four
wheels and tow the vehicle to a secure location
Re-activating Parking Brakes (Front Axle)
Warning
Block all four wheels. Failure to do so could result in
death or serious injury from vehicle roll away.
1.
After you have blocked all four wheels, crawl under
the front axle
2.
Loosen jam nuts Tighten brake release bolts, until you
begin to feel resistance Tighten jam nuts (repeat for
each side)
3.
The parking brakes should now be re-activated and
the front wheels are locked Remove the blocks from
all four wheels
4.
Verify the parking brake works
5.
Remove any warning tags from the ignition or
steering wheel
