Using the Glasses
X106™ Evolution glasses were designed with ease of use in mind. Their
usage is straightforward and intuitive. See following sections for details.
Turning ON / OFF
X106™ Evolution glasses from XPANDVISION™ work in automatic mode –
there is no power switch to turn the glasses “ON” or “OFF”. Their default
mode is “OFF”. When the glasses are “OFF”, the electronic circuit periodically
checks for a presence of a valid IR signal. If a valid IR signal is present,
the glasses turn “ON” and start shuttering their lenses. Once the signal
disappears, glasses clear their lenses and return to OFF mode.
Glasses Testing
It is strongly suggested that glasses are tested before handing them out to
viewers. The test consists of two steps:
1)
Observe the glasses to determine whether they are signaling a low
battery – see section Low Battery Indication.
2)
Test for normal operation using the AT100 Active Glasses Tester, which is
distributed with XPANDVISION’s cinema system.
The AT100 is designed to generate a low intensity IR signal that, when
passed within 2 feet (60 cm) of the glasses, causes the lenses to blink in
response to the IR signal. Both lenses should blink at a visible rate and in
doing so indicate that the glasses are functioning properly and are ready
for distribution. If the lenses do not blink, the battery is empty and should
be replaced before further use, or glasses are damaged or malfunctioning.
