Chapter 5 – Troubleshooting
Belowisalistofsomecommonproblemscomputerownerscanencounteranddescriptionsofhowtodealwithproblemsif
theyoccurwithyourXi3ModularComputer(ModelX7A).
Primary Checklist
CONDITION:Display/monitorconnectedtoyourX7AModularComputergoesblackorsuddenly“freezes.”
• YoumayneedtoforceyourX7AModularComputertoshutdown.Youcandosobydepressingandholdingthepower
buttononthebackofyourX7Aforapproximately5seconds.
{NOTE: You will know your X7A Modular Computer is shut
down because the internal indicator light is orange and not green.}
• TryrestartingyourX7AModularComputer.
• MakesureallpowercordsareconnectedproperlytoyourX7AModularComputerandtoafunctioningelectricaloutlet.
• MakesurethatallothercablesareconnectedproperlytoyourX7AModularComputer,includingComputerMonitor,
Mouse,Keyboard,Internetconnectionandanyotherperipheraldevices.
• BrieflypressthePowerButtononthebackofyourX7AModularComputer;thisshouldrestartyourX7AModular
Computer.Ifnot,pleasecontactXi3TechnicalSupportat1-855-Xi3-HELP(1-855-943-4357)[email protected].
CONDITION:X7AModularComputerstarts/turnson,buttheInternetconnectiondoesnotworkwhileusinganEthernet
cable.
• EnsurethattheEthernetcableissecurelyconnectedtobothyourX7AModularComputerandtheEthernetPortinthe
wall(orinyourrouter).
• IftheEthernetcablewas
not connected securely
,reconnectingyourEthernetcableshouldrestoreInternetaccess.
• IfyourEthernetcableissecurelyconnectedtoyourX7AModularComputerandyourInternetrouter/gateway,and
Internetaccessisnotrestored,isyourInternet
Router/Gateway turned on?
IfyourInternetRouter/Gatewayisturned
onbutyoudonothaveInternetaccess,restartyourInternetRouter/Gateway;thisshouldrestoreInternetaccess.
• IfyourInternet
Router/Gateway is turned off
,restartyourRouter/Gateway;thisshouldrestoreInternetaccess.
• IfyouhaverestartedyourRouter/GatewaybutInternetaccessisnotrestored,it’spossiblethattheremaybea
problem
with your Internet Service Provider
(ISP).PleasecontactyourISPtoconfirmthatyouareconnectedwiththeirservice.
• IfyourInternetconnectionwithyourISPisstilloperational,butInternetaccessisnotrestored,contactXi3Technical
Supportat1-855-Xi3-HELP(1-855-943-4357)[email protected].
CONDITION:Computerwillnotbootfromadesiredexternaldevice.
• FollowtheinstructionsonPage9for“Changingthebootdevicepriority”.
CONDITION:“NoOSFound”messagedisplayedwhensystemturnedon.
• “PowerCycle”thecomputerbypoweringdownthemachine(depressandholdthePowerButtonforapproximately5
secondsuntilthecomputershutsoff).Next,unplugthePowerCordforafewsecondsandthenplugitbackin.Restart
thecomputer.ItshouldbootupproperlyintotheOperatingSystem(OS).
• Ifthe“NoOSFound”messagestillappearsafterperformingtheabovePowerCyclestep,ensurethattherearenoUSB
storagedevices(e.g.thumbdrives)pluggedintothecomputer,asthecomputermaybeattemptingtobootfromoneof
them.Ifthisisthecase,removetheUSBstoragedeviceandtryrestartingyourX7AModularComputer.
• IfyourX7AModularComputerdoesnotbootupproperlyafterfollowingthesesteps,pleasecontactTechnicalSupportat
Xi3Corporation.
CONDITION:Fanmakingloudnoises.
• Ifthesystemstartsmakingloudnoises,itisprobablyduetoafanbearinggoingbad.Eventuallythefanwillstopworking
andthemachinewilloverheatandshutdowntoprotectcomponentsfromgettingdamaged.Thefansimplyneedstobe
replaced.Mostcustomerscanfixthisproblemthemselveswithareplacementfan,Torxwrench,needlenosepliersand
somebasicinstructions.
• TheX7AModularComputerhastwofans.Ifonegoesbad,itisrecommendedthatyoureplacebothatthesametimeas
apreventativemeasure.
• Anotherpossiblereasonforloudfannoisesisafanbecomingslightlyturnedorleaninginonedirectionoranother.Before
replacingafan,trypickingupthecomputerandrotatingthecomputerintheairwhileitison.Thiscanhelpafansettle
backintoitsoriginalposition.
• Somecustomersmaybeinclinedtoremoveanendcapandcinchdownthefanscrews,butthisisnotrecommended.
Thescrewsshouldbefinger-tightenedwithaTorxT-10wrench.
