SECTION 3
IN CASE OF DRIVING EMERGENCY
HAZARD WARNING
FLASHER
The hazard warning flasher provides addi-
tional safety when the vehicle must be stopped on
the side of the roadway and presents a possible
hazard to other motorists. When the flasher is on,
it serves as a warning to the other drivers to
approach and overtake your vehicle with caution.
The front directional signals and the taillights
will flash intermittently when the flashers are in
operation. The hazard warning flashers will not
operate when the service brake pedal is de-
pressed. The turn signal will not operate when the
flashers are on. When it is necessary to leave the
vehicle, the flasher system will continue to oper-
ate with the ignition key removed.
IF YOU GET A FLAT TIRE
Tire manufacturers recommend accelerating
briefly to regain steering stability, then gradually
decreasing speed. Avoid quick steering move-
ments.
In case of sudden tire failure:
•
Hold the steering wheel firmly.
•
Apply brakes moderately. Do not “jam on”
brakes.
•
Slow down gradually and pull slowly to a
safe off-road place.
•
Park on a level spot if possible.
•
Turn off the engine.
•
Set the parking brake.
•
Turn on the hazard warning flashers.
•
See your Volkswagen Owner’s Manual for
specific tire changing instructions and pre-
cautions.
SPARE TIRE STORAGE
The spare tire is fastened to a carrier bracket
on the backwall of the coach.
·
Remove the tire cover.
·
Remove the 2 nuts and retainer plate that
holds the wheel to the bracket.
·
Carefully remove wheel from bracket studs.
Operating the hazard warning flasher
system while moving on the highway
is illegal.
WARNING
We advise you to obtain qualified
road service whenever possible. Do
not try to change a tire yourself
except under emergency conditions,
and only by closely following instruc-
tions in this manual and the chassis
operating guide.
If you do satisfactorily complete an
emergency tire change, we recom-
mend that you have the wheel nuts
checked and properly torque tight-
ened by qualified service personnel as
soon as possible.
After a wheel has been properly
torqued and inspected by qualified
service personnel, it should be
rechecked after traveling 100 miles,
then again at each oil change.
Tire is heavy. You may need assis-
tance to lower safely to ground.
