NOTES ON RUNNING WINDOWS SX/DX
Windows is a Graphical User Interface (GUI) that runs on top of DOS. Your system comes with
Windows 3.1 already loaded on the hard disk and correctly setup to allow you to commence using the
program immediately. To start Windows, type the following command at the DOS prompt:
C>WIN
Windows will then be loaded. Note that the built-in trackball is the default pointing device when you first
run Windows. If you wish to use a mouse connected to the external serial port (refer to page 6-4 for
details of how to connect a mouse) rather than the built-in trackball, you must configure the mouse as
COM1. You may also connect a PS/2 mouse directly to the external keyboard port.
Extended VGA Drivers with an External CRT Monitor SX/DX
Note that if you connect an external CRT monitor you may wish to load one of the extended resolution
display drivers for a higher resolution display than the standard 640 x 480 VGA display. The [SX/DX
5-12] extended resolution display drivers have already been copied to the hard disk and you should use
the Windows Setup program or the Setup icon in the Control Panel to load a different display driver. The
display drivers provided are listed as
CHIPS 655XX ——,
and you can scroll through the list to select
the required option. Which option you can use will depend on the specification of your monitor. [SX/DX
