Maintenance and use of the tips
Tip temperature
High soldering temperatures can degrade the tip. Use the lowest possible sol-
dering temperature. The excellent thermal recovery characteristics ensure ef-
fective soldering at low temperatures. This protects the soldered items from
thermal damage, too.
Cleaning
As oxides and carbides from the solder and flux can form impurities on the tip,
clean the tip regularly with a cleaning sponge. These impurities can lead to de-
fective joints or reduce the tips heat conductivity. When using the soldering
iron continuously, be sure to loosen the tip and remove all oxides at least once
a week. This helps to prevent seizures and reduction of the tip temperature.
When not in use
Never leave the soldering iron rest at a high temperature for longer periods of
time, as the solder plating of the tip will be covered with oxide, which can
greatly reduce the thermal conductivity of the tip.
After use
Clean the tip and coat it with fresh solder.
When the soldering iron is used for the first time, you should pay attention to the monitor to
see the temperature. Wait until the temperature is able to melt a tin wire. Put a thin layer of tin
on the gold-plated part of the iron tip and then increase the temperature to the required height.
Keep in mind that the iron tip needs protection by a thin layer of tin if you want to use it for a
longer period of time to be able to achieve an optimal soldering function.
When it comes to a thin layer of oxide on the surface of the iron tip, this might result in incor-
rect low temperature indication. It might become unable to melt tin although the heating ele-
ments of the station have a high temperature. If this happens, do not increase the temperature
without knowing if the iron tip is oxidised. Please turn the power off and clean the iron tip with
a sponge. If this does not help, wait until the temperature of the iron has dropped to room tem-
perature. Then you can gently clean off the oxide with sandpaper. After this, repeat the pro-
cess explained firstly.
Please pay attention when you put the iron back into its holder at a high temperature. In this
case, you should adjust the temperature button below 250
. If the idle time should exceed
℃
20 min, please turn the power supply off. Otherwise the soldering iron would have a too high
temperature for too long. The heat will generate an accumulated temperature which leads to
accelerated ageing of the heating element and other components. Furthermore this will lead to
faster oxidation weakening the soldering efficiency. It also might lead to plastic melting off the
handle or heating elements having a short circuit.
If the tip deformation or erosions becomes too heavy, please replace the tip with a new one.
While soldering do not give too much pressure on the iron tips. More pressure will not in-
crease the thermal conductivity and will result in damages of the iron tip.
