Place the stretcher assembly with the brads
facing down so that they do not show after
the final assembly. Spread a thin film of glue
into the holes of the front and back legs.
The shorter, Back Legs (G) are placed on
the smaller ends of the Side Stretchers (H).
The longer, Front Legs (F) go on the ends of
the Side Stretchers (H) that are spread the
farthest apart. See FIGURE 6.
PROCEED
TO STEP 7 BEFORE GLUE DRIES
so that
there is some flexibility when you insert the
legs into the seat.
Apply glue to the legs and in the seat holes.
Use a rubber mallet to tap legs evenly into the
seat until the shoulder of each leg is in contact
with the bottom of the seat (see FIGURE 7).
After all the legs are in place, set the chair on
a hard flat surface to make sure it does not
wobble. If it does, push down firmly on the
seat and slightly twist. If this does not work,
sand the bottom of the legs that are on the
floor. Let the chair set for a few hours on a
hard, flat surface and allow the glue to dry.
For added strength, screw a 1⅝" x #8 Black
Screw (O) through each leg chuck into the
seat and a 1¼" x #8 black screw (P) through
both side stretchers into the front and back
legs. The screws must be inserted at such an
angle so that they do not go through the other
side of the seat or leg. See FIGURE 8.
To insert screw at proper
angle, the screw head should
be approximately 1/2" from the
nearest surface when starting
the screw.
