General Hints – Blind Rivets for all fastening purposes
Blind rivets should be readily deformable. For this reason most blind rivets are
made from corrosion-resistant but relatively soft aluminium. Choosing the
correct blind rivets for the right job depends on the workpiece, the strength
demands, the diameter of the blind rivets and thickness of the material.
If the connections are subject to particularly high loads, the use of steel blind
rivets are recommended. However, using steel rivets will require more force to
install them into the workpiece. For special applications, where corrosion and
acid resistance is required, you will need blind rivets made from stainless
steel. Additionally copper blind rivets and plastic-covered rivets are available
as well as blind rivets which are extremely water-resistant and electrically
isolated.
Blind rivets with standard (round) head are used for decorative appearance
only. Whereas rivets with countersunk heads are used for fixing smooth
surfaces.
