5.2. Installation Instructions
Read these instructions carefully and in conjunction with Yellow Top Series 14 & 19 Grain Bin Owners and
Users Manual 198818
For grain bins built prior to 1975, refer to the original installation instructions regarding walk-in door
installation. For bins built prior to 1991 (without Swing-Away doors), refer to the original installation
instructions for placement of uprights around door.
Prior to Construction
1. In order to maintain your extension tier wall sheets in good condition, separate the sheets and allow air
circulation between them. Store sheets in a dry place. Do not store sheets with sheet ends pointing upward.
2. Check the foundation and soil capacity for suitability of the proposed extension.
3. Plan for the required accessories that will be affected by the extension - e.g. longer ladder, longer auger, etc.
4. In addition to the extension package, be sure to order additional sheets, if necessary, to replace any
damaged or previously modified wall sheets.
Installation Instructions
1. Re-construct the bin to its final form, matching the appropriate lay-out shown in the grain bin installation
instructions.
2. When installing extension tiers:
a. Existing nuts and bolts may be re-used.
b. All sealing washers on these bolts must be replaced with the new washers provided in the hardware
package.
c. Any damaged bolts and nuts should not be re-used. Replace any damaged fasteners with the extra ones
provided. These precautions will ensure strong and well-sealed connections.
d. Do not substitute bolts in place of those supplied by Westeel.
Note
Extension tier hardware packages include:
a. All nuts and bolts c/w sealing washers required for the extension tier sheets.
b. Additional nuts and bolts c/w sealing washers to replace those damaged or lost.
c. Sealing washers for all re-used existing bolts.
3. Hold the bolt head securely when tightening the nut to prevent damage to the sealing washer.
a. Always tighten the nut, not the bolt.
b. Bin bolts must be tightened to recommended torque values during installation.
c. Refer to table in Owners' and Users' Manual 198818 for recommended torque.
