the best sampling method and information on preferred
puncture site.
To obtain a capillary blood sample you can choose the fol-
lowing sites:

The ear (marginal ear vein) – all species
t
Paw (cats and dogs)
t
Leg callus (dogs)
t
Inner or outer lip (dogs)
Sometimes it can be difficult to get a blood sample. Here are
some recommendations how to improve the procedure:

Warming the puncture site by means of a warm cloth
t
Gently rubbing of the puncture site
t
Identify the marginal ear vein by using a light shining
through the skin of the ear
