You can use a fat cream like petroleum jelly on the puncture
site to make it easier to form a blood drop and to avoid
that the blood spills into the hair. Sometimes it is useful to
puncture twice very nearby to form one blood drop out of
the punctures.
It is important to motivate the animals by means of positive
reinforcement like:

Perform the blood glucose testing under calm and
relaxed conditions

Feed a “Goodie” as a reward

Use a lancing device that only gives a silent “click”
