Blood pressure classification according to the WHO
Standards for the evaluation of high or low blood pressure, independent of age, have been defined by the
World Health Organization (WHO) as shown in the following diagram.
Based on the current data, the indicator shows a segment, which corresponds to the WHO classification. If,
for example, your blood pressure amounts to 120 mmHg (systolic blood pressure), 80 mmHg (diastolic blood
pressure), you have a normal blood pressure.
• If the systolic and diastolic blood pressure falls into different categories, the higher
value should be selected for the classification.
• The indicator for the WHO blood pressure classification is only a reference value and is
not to be considered as a final diagnosis.
• The blood pressure monitor also makes it possible to measure your blood pressure and
pulse with an irregular heart beat. If the device detects an irregular heart rate or exces-
sive movement of the body during the measurement, the “
” symbol will appear on
the display. It is important that you are relaxed and do not move or speak during the
measurement.
