SECTION 3
SYSTEM OPERATION
3.1 INTRODUCTION
This section contains information about the operation of the Diamond DX
™
Messaging System,
including Network-controlled functions, Locally-controlled functions, and those which can be
accomplished by the Network
or
under local control. Front and rear panel controls are also
discussed here.
3.2
FRONT PANEL INDICATORS AND CONTROLS
See Figures 3-1 and 3-2 for views of the front and rear panels.
The front panel has three elements for input/output of data and control. These are the Liquid
Crystal Display and the <SELECT> and <ENTER> push buttons.
3.2.1 Liquid Crystal Display (LCD)
The LCD is on the front panel and works with the <ENTER> and <SELECT> push buttons to
give local control to the use. See Figure 3-3 for a map of the LCD menus and explanations of the
Front Panel Controls.
3.2.2 <ENTER> Push Button
The <ENTER> push button works with the <SELECT> Button to allow you to navigate through
the Front Panel Display menus, control local spots, and set up and control the unit. See the menu
map, Figure 3-3, for instructions as to the Push Button sequence for each control element.
Pressing this Button normally moves you from one menu level to another, or causes some action
to occur, such as starting or stopping local spot recording. It is a powerful tool which can record
or erase spots, or cause spots to play. Note that it can move you from Home to Second to Third
Level menus, and also from Third Level to Second, and from there back to the Home Level.
Pressing both <ENTER> and <SELECT> at the same time will move you back to the Top
(Home) level from any level of the menu.
3.2.3 <SELECT> Push Button
The <SELECT> Push Button works with the <ENTER> Push Button to allow control of the
unit’s operation. Pushing this Button normally moves you through the menus with no action
taken. For instance, when in the HOME LEVEL Screens, pressing <SELECT> will scroll
through the screens, allowing you to see the display, but without changing any control elements.
However, the best course is to use the menu map unless you are quite familiar with the unit’s
operation. Pressing the wrong button can delete local spot recording, or play local spots when
