Avoid operating your machine too close to an
overhang, deep ditch or hole. If your machine
inadvertently gets close to a tipping condition
or drop-off, STOP and get off the machine
after applying the parking brake … plan your
moves carefully before proceeding. Reversal is
often the best move.
Be alert to potential caving edges, falling rocks
and slides.
Check for overhead obstacles that could be
dangerous. LOOK UP AS WELL AS DOWN.
(FIG. 21)
Be alert to obstacles and excessively rough
terrain. Back away from them and go around.
Always travel slowly over rough terrain and
hillsides. Maintain a speed consistent with the
working conditions.

When traveling on a public road, obey all traffic
regulations and be sure that the proper clearance
flags, lights and warning signs … such as the “slow
moving vehicle” emblem … are used. (FIG. 22)
NEVER speed … and NEVER coast in neutral.
When roading the machine know your approxi-
mate stopping distance at any given speed.
NEVER turn corners at excessively high speeds.
(FIG. 23)
Always look in all directions before reversing
your direction of travel.
Use EXTRA caution when working in close
quarters or when traveling through congested
areas. Courtesy pays off.
