Threading
8.7 How to use spool centring devices, felt washers
and nets sensibly
Take care that the thread unwinds correctly and evenly in your W6 Cover.
Note the prerequisites for the use of a cover. A halting unwinding of the
thread may lead to the needle breaking, which may damage the metal
needle plate. Rough treatment such as, for example, an attempt to undo a
knot in the thread may cause the hook to move; this does not constitute
grounds for a warranty claim.
W6 WERTARBEIT recommends using tension-friendly and lint-free threads
from the OV thread range (2500 m) or 1000-m threads available in 415
shades.
If you have an uneven stitch pattern, cut all threads on the telescopic arm
with scissors. Then, gently and carefully pull the threads off the telescopic
arm without pressure in the direction of the threading order to the
needles/lower looper. If necessary, turn the hand wheel with careful forward
and backward movements (if possible).
1.
When to use a spool centring device for the thread:
A spool centring device is used for large round or conical spools.
Example: W6 overlock thread 2500 m
Advantage: The thread can be pulled off the round or conical spool
evenly.
2.
When to use felt washers for the thread:
You can place a felt washer directly onto the spool centring device if
you want to use small spools.
3.
When to use nets for spools:
If you are using thread that is prone to slide down the spool or if the
thread unrolls to fast and falls down, it is recommended to pull a
spool net over the spool. The unwound thread must then be pulled
upwards out of the spool net.
Attention: The thread must unwind smoothly through the spool net. It
must run without sticking as this may lead to break of the needle,
damage to the metal needle plate or misalignment of the hook.

W6 tip
Cheap, poor-quality threads can cause trouble when sewing. We therefore
recommend using tension-friendly and lint-free W6 thread available in over
400 shades.
