HOW TO SET UP YOUR HR-X RIM DRIVE

The most important thing you can do for your new HR-X is to place it on a

level surface.  It cannot be stressed enough that a level base for the HR-X

will make set up much easier.

It is best to place the HR-X on a level surface that measures at least 27 x 2l

inches.  This will allow room for the optional dust cover if you should want

to purchase it.

In the box labeled PART A, you will find the main HR-X chassis with the base of the

JMW-12.7 mounted.  The tonearm wand should be removed with all the loose parts

(alignment jig, hardware, record clamp, etc.) and placed on the side. You can now

move the chassis with the tonearm base and four feet attached.

Lift the main chassis (get help, it is heavy) where it will be playing. This is a good

time  to  make  sure  that  the  table  is  positioned  correctly.    If  it  must  be  moved

slightly or centered on its stand, do it slowly.

Lift the platter out of Box B, it is very heavy be careful. Peel the tape off the platter

bearing hole and place the platter on the spindle.  Carefully lower the platter down

onto the spindle.  Spin the platter and check that it is spinning freely.

It is very important that the HR-X is level. Place a 12" long bubble level across the

platter  and  level  the  turntable  in  two  directions,  left  to  right  and  front  to  back.

Rotating  the  black  cone  shaped  feet  on  the  bottom  of  the  four  legs  will  level  the

unit.

Now place the RIM DRIVE in position.  The left side of the HR-X has a cutout where

the  RIM  DRIVE  is  positioned.      The  RIM  DRIVE  is  heavy  and  should  be  moved

slowly.  The power button goes to the left, the socket to the rear.

Remove  the  tape  covering  the  RIM  DRIVE  bearing  and  lower  it  onto  the  spindle.

NEVER  TURN  THE  RIM  DRIVE  ASSEMBLY  OVER  ONCE  THE  RIM  DRIVE  IS

INSTALLED.    IT  CAN  FALL  OUT  AND  SERIOUSLY  DAMAGE  THE  PERSON

HOLDING IT OR PEOPLE AROUND YOU.

Move  the  chassis  of  the  HR-X  so  it  is  just  engaging  the  RIM  DRIVE  and  the  table

reaches speed in about 5 to 7 seconds.  This is the correct amount of tension on the

RIM DRIVE and the best possible sound.  Too close and the speed will drop due to

friction too far and the speed will be erratic.  Once set run the HR-X for two hours

to break in the RIM DRIVE “O” ring.

Do  not  check  the  speed  every  five  minutes  with  a  strobe  disc.    It  will  drive  you

crazy.  Break in the rim drive for a few hours, set the speed using the SDS when

the table is warmed up and then leave it alone.  If you need to check something,

check your stocks or bonds, leave the table alone.  Most importantly do not call or

send an e-mail every day that the speed has to be changed .02 HZ every hour.  You

shouldn’t be checking it and you cannot hear it.
