MAINTENANCE OPERATION
Brake fluid can damage plastic
and painted surfaces. Handle with
care. Wipe up spills immediately.
Avoid contact with skin or eyes. In
case of contact, wash thoroughly
and call a doctor immediately if it
contacts your eyes.
NOTE
Brakes
Your Volta is equipped with front and
rear hydraulic braking systems that
dissipate heat generated by the friction
of the brake pads on the brake discs as
the wheels are slowed. As the brake
pads wear, the brake fluid levels will
drop. A leak in either of the systems will
also cause the level to drop. Frequently
inspect the systems to ensure there
are no fluid leaks. Periodically inspect
the brake fluid levels and the brake pads
for wear.
If the brake lever free-play does not
feel within the normal range while riding,
check the brake pads for wear. Worn
pads should be replaced. If the pads
are not worn beyond the recommended
limit, there is probably air in the brake
system. See your Volta Authorized
Service Agent to have the air bled from
the system.
Brake Fluid Recommendation
The recommended brake fluid is DOT 4
Brake Fluid, or any brake fluid of equal
quality and performance.
Use fresh brake fluid from a sealed
container. Be sure to read the label
before opening the sealed container. An
opened container may be contaminated
or may have absorbed moisture from
the air.
Fluid Level Inspection
1. Place your Volta in an upright position
on a firm, level surface.
2. Check the fluid levels of the front and
rear brake fluid reservoirs. The fluid
should be above the MIN marks. If your
inspection indicates a low fluid level,
have your Volta Authorized Service
Agent add the recommended brake fluid.
Do not add or replace brake fluid, except
in an emergency. If you do add fluid, have
your Volta Authorized Service Agent
check the system as soon as possible.
Other Inspections
1. Make sure there are no fluid leaks
2. Check for deterioration or cracks in
the hoses and fittings.
