AMPLIFIER
With its power of 280 Watts and the impressive efficiency ensured by its class D
architecture, the Sub VS8’s amplifier gives the signal solidity and supports the
considerable dynamic range of the special sub-woofer used in perfect symbiosis.
N.B.: class D is particularly suitable for amplifying low frequencies, which are generally rather demanding.
Since this technology allows a high level of energy saving and a significant reduction in heat loss, it offers
large advantages in terms of efficiency and is perfect for use in equipment where compact size must be
combined with high performance.
PROTECTIVE DEVICES
As well as the devices for signal processing and amplification as such, the
Sub VS8 is fitted with sensors and protective devices which safeguard the
components and protect against overtemperature and electrical hazards.
Low AC voltage sense
Thermal protection
Output short circuit protection
Continuous output voltage protection

Internally, the Sub VS8 always processes the signal in mono mode, regardless of whether
the source is mono or stereo.
If you are familiar with technical matters, you will already know the reasons for this. However,
it may be useful to run through a simplified version of the principles behind this approach:
Unlike higher frequencies, in which the directivity with which the sound is dispersed
increases in direct proportion to the frequency itself, low frequencies, and especially the
very low frequencies handled by sub-woofers, feature a sound dispersion more or less
omnidirectional.
In the simplest possible terms, we can say that:
1) The perception of a stereophonic image (which actually depends on a large number
of factors) depends to a significant extent on the frequencies from the medium-low
range upward (with the medium-high range having a particularly significant
psychoacoustic effect) – i.e. on frequencies not handled by the sub-woofer.
2) For very low frequencies, channel separation is irrelevant – in fact, in some cases it
can actually be harmful, for example in case of phase interpolations which weaken
the sound or interfere with its distribution (to take this example to extremes, for
beginners, it should be remembered that:
“The acoustic product of two speakers
reproducing the same sound in phase opposition, even at the highest volume, will
be: no sound”).
For similar reasons, on commercial discs, film soundtracks, etc., the low frequencies
are placed centrally (the main examples are the kick drum and the bass – or at least
their lowest components).
