Examine the shaft.
3.4.1
Earlier clamps have a smooth shaft and are fitted with locking and adjusting
grubscrews. Loctite is used on these screws
3.4.2
Later clamps have a groove machined in the shaft and are fitted with a single, longer,
adjusting grubscrew, retained by a locking thread insert.

Adjust an earlier clamp as follows:
4.1
Replace the clamp knob
and rotate to position 2.
4.2
Using a 2 mm hexagonal wrench, remove the locking grubscrew
from the shaft
4.3
Using a 2 mm hexagonal wrench, slacken the adjusting grubscrew
until the leg is free to move
under its own weight.
4.4
With the knob still in Position 2, slide the leg in and out and gradually tighten the adjusting
until the clamp begins to grip.
4.5
Back off the adjusting grubscrew
by a quarter-turn (90°).
4.6
to Position 1 (fully ‘on’).
4.7
Replace and tighten the locking grubscrew
, using Loctite 221 and allow 15 minutes for the
Loctite to set.

Secure the clamp knob
with the washer
and retaining screw

Adjust a later clamp as follows:
5.1
Replace the clamp knob
and rotate to position 2.
5.2
Using a 2 mm hexagonal wrench, slacken the grubscrew
until the leg is free to move under
its own weight.
5.3
With the knob still in Position 2, slide the leg in and out and gradually tighten the grubscrew
until the clamp begins to grip.
5.4
Back off the grubscrew
5.5
Secure the clamp knob
with the washer
and retaining screw
