Cessna 140
FINAL ASSEMBLY
1) If you want to draw on the control surfaces, do so
now using a fine marker or strips of black paper
referring to the chain dashed lines on the plan.
2) If you want to cover or paint bare wooden parts
such as the wheels, etc. do so now. This is much
easier when the parts are not fitted to the model.
3) Assemble the propeller to the nose block using
the wire hook as shown on the plan, making the
shaft as short as possible.
4) Glue the wings in position, applying glue to all of the
contact surfaces and ensuring that the wings locate
properly and look square and true to the fuselage.
5) Glue the tail plane in position, making sure it is
square, true and in line with the wings.
6) Glue the fin and rudder in place, ensuring it is
properly located on the tail plane and at right
angles to it, adjusting it if required.
7) The wheels can then be added to the axles of the
legs and retained by simply bending up the wire
or using the insulations from some thin electrical
flex held with a blob of glue. NB make sure that
the glue does not enter the wheel centre bushing
and the wheel can rotate freely.
8) Stick the acetate sheet at the edges over the
windscreen and window pattern on the plan.
Carefully cut through both the acetate and the
paper all the way round.
9) Use the paper part as a trial for the acetate
part, checking the fit. Once a satisfactory fit
with the paper part is achieved, make any minor
adjustments if any to the acetate part. Position it
on the model starting out with the top over the
wing leading edge, tucking the two side window
‘flaps’ under the wings. Glue the top part to
CS4, then fold it under and round to the sides,
pulling it tight over the front of the fuselage
before gluing it in place. The acetate part can be
secured with tiny drops of cyano, but do not use
too much or the fumes will ‘fog’ it.
