Additional safety instructions for all applications
Kickback warning
A kickback is a sudden reaction of the rotating part when, for example, rotating wheel,
backing pad or steel brush pinch or become blocked. This leads to a sudden stopping of
the rotating part. Therefore, the electrical device abruptly increases speed in the direction
opposite of the part rotation at the point of binding.
For example, if an abrasive wheel is snagged or pinched by the workpiece, the edge of the
workpiece may snag in the workpiece causing a wheel to stop or kickback. The wheel may
either jump toward or away from the operator, depending on direction of the wheel’s
movement at the point of pinching. Abrasive wheel may also break. A kickback is caused
by improper use of electrical device.
A kickback can be avoided by taking the appropriate precautionary measures set out
below.
a)
Hold the device firmly and place your hands in such a way that you can withstand the
kickback forces. Always use auxiliary handle, if provided, for maximum control over
kickback or torque reaction during start-up.
If proper precautions are taken, the operator
can control kickback forces and torque reactions.
b)
Always keep your hands at a safe distance from the rotating accessory.
The accessory
may kickback over your hands.
c)
Do not position your body in the area where power toll will move if kickback occurs.
Kickback propels the power tool in direction opposite to wheel’s movement at the point of
snagging.
d)
Use special care when working on corners, sharp edges, etc.
Avoid bouncing of the
accessory on the workpiece as well as its snagging. Rotating accessories have a tendency
of snagging in corners, sharp edges or when bouncing. This may cause the kickback or
loss of control.
e)
Do not attach a chain or circular saw.
Such accessories often cause a kickback or loss of
control over the electrical device.
