Boiler Lifting Instructions
Lifting Device Parameters
Design parameters
1. Design lifting capacity (maximum load): 7200 lbs.
(3266 kg) (equally loaded on each side).
2. Device is a below-the-hook lifting device and shall
conform to the recommendation of the ASME
B30.20 Standard for below-the-hook lifting devices.
3. Design factor of safety = 3.
4. The lifting capacity must be clearly labelled on the
lifting
device.
5. The device must be operated and maintained as per
section 51 of the O.Reg.851 (Industrial
establishments) under OHSA.
6. All lifting lugs are designed for vertical lifts only.
7. Proper provisions shall be made to ensure lifting lugs
are centred on the shackle pin.
8. Lifting lug welds shall have 100% magnetic particle
inspection
(MPI).
9. Shackle pins to be minimum 1” (25.4 mm) dia.
Structural steel
1. Structural steel shall conform to the latest edition
of S16-09 and the CISC code of standard practice.
2. Structural steel shall conform to CSA G40.21-300W,
G40.21M-350W class C for H.S.S. and G40-21M-
350W for W shape sections.
3. All plates and round bars to be A44 (300 MPa)
material
(minimum).
4. Welding shall conform to the latest edition of CSA
Specifications W47.1 And W59, by the Canadian
Welding Bureau and shall be undertaken by a
fabricator and erector fully approved by the Canadian
Welding Bureau to the requirements of CSA
standards W47, division 1 or division 2.1.
5. All structural steel shall be new material.
6. Field verify all dimensions prior to manufacturing.
7. All structural steel to be finished as approved by
the
general contractor.
