This section describes how to remove and replace a cooling module in a 5U84 Storage Shelf.

Note:

This repair can be done without removing the storage shelf from the rack.

Requirements

Use the following to verify the requirements of the service.

Verify you have the following items

5U84 Storage Shelf replacement power supply

ESD wrist strap

Removing a 5U84 Storage Shelf cooling module

Use the following steps to remove a faulty cooling module.

To remove a 5U84 Storage Shelf fan module

1

Put on an ESD-compliant wrist strap or take other ESD-protective measures.

Caution:

You must complete a cooling module swap within

three

minutes. Leaving the slot open

for longer than three minutes can result in the 5U84 Storage Shelf overheating and causing other

components to fail.

Caution:

Operation of the enclosure with any modules missing will disrupt the airflow and the

disk drives will not receive sufficient cooling. It is essential that all apertures are filled before

operating the enclosure system.

2

Verify the faulty cooling module.

A faulty cooling module either has an LED that glows amber, or the LED is not lit.
