• Audio functions (option):
If the unit is equipped with the op-
tional audio function, bidirectional
audio transmission can be carried
out parallel to the video transmis-
sion. Typical applications for the au-
dio function are the audio monitoring
of objects and making announce-
ments to the object.
The audio function is also required in
conjunction with door entry phones
and enables remote control of the
unit via DTMF codes from compatible
terminal equipment such as a video
telephone.
• Long-term recording (optional hard disk):
As a further option, the
VICO

unit
can be equipped with a hard disk.
The capacity of 5 Gbytes is sufficient
for long-term recordings and ex-
tended monitoring tasks.
Different recording modes are avail-
able: in addition to a video recording
at specific times, it is also possible to
record individual pictures at select-
able intervals. The memory can be
configured as a linear or ring buffer.
In the latter case, the oldest record-
ings are overwritten as soon as the
capacity of the ring has been
reached.
Recording procedures can also be
linked to events. Recordings are
played-back via remote-control and
ISDN using a video telephone or the

software on a PC.
Theory of operation
The
VICO VICO VICO VICO
unit is used to communicate
live pictures over long distances. The
visual surveillance and judgement of
situations is of greatest importance
and permits video monitoring from lo-
cations any distance away.
The ability to view remote locations and
objects live provides security and pre-
vents damage. To achieve this, the
VICO VICO VICO VICO
unit is typically installed in the
object to be monitored.

combines the features of a clas-
sical alarm system comprising up to 8
alarm lines and the possibility for auto-
matic selection of up to 50 telephone
numbers in the event of an alarm with
a modern, remote video monitoring
system.
The optionally available hard disk ad-
ditionally allows local long-term re-
cording.

A PC equipped with an ISDN card is re-
