Appliance Preparation
Fitting the appliance into framing
1. Fold out four mounting tabs and recess the
appliance in the framing as shown.
2. Fasten the unit to framing using 4 screws or nails at
the mounting tabs.
Note:
The sheet metal front face of the appliance is
fl
ush with the framing studs.
3. Butt the top piece of cement board to the bottom
piece already
fi
tted and fasten it to the face of the
appliance with self-tapping countersunk screws
provided. Use the holes already pre-punched in the
cement board.
Note:
The board will be slightly above the top
fl
ange
of the
fi
replace opening.
4. Secure the outer perimeter of the cement board to
the framing.
Note:
Additional
fi
nishes such as tile, etc., can be
butted up to the edge of the one inch 1555 surround
trim. The wider 1550 surround trim will accept non-
combustible material up to 1” thick overtop of cement
board and behind the surround.
Wall Finishing
The L1 Linear
fi
replace is supplied with non-
combustible cement board to be used as a wall surface
immediately surrounding the unit. Standard gypsum
wall board may be used beyond the perimeter of the
cement board.
Additional non-combustible material such as tile, etc.,
may be applied over top of the wall surface or you may
choose to leave it
fi
nished clean with no tile, etc. Be
aware that a trim is always required and that only the
wider trim will accept tile, etc. tucked behind it (up to 1
inch thick).
If a clean
fi
nish is desired the joints in the cement
board and the transition to gypsum board will require
special attention if future cracking is to be controlled.
Also, the entire surface of the cement board will require
a skim coat to match the thickness and
fi
nish of the
surrounding gypsum board.
We have taken measures to limit the number of joints
and to locate them away from the heat to help control
any cracking. However, we cannot guarantee a crack-
free
fi
nish.
