Appendix B: Troubleshooting Guide

Terminal turns itself off

Problem

Terminal does not power on

Battery life is short

“Low Backup Battery” message

Screen is blank

Terminal will not shut off

Solution

Charge terminal for 16 hours

Terminal either does not
respond, or responds inaccu-
rately to touch screen input.

Cannot read bar code

Terminal cannot communicate
with host PC

Check settings on terminal (see page 27)

Check settings on PC (see page 25)

Try another cable

Make sure cable is tightly connected

Check to see if it works on another PC

If terminal is processing data, attach charging cable to insure
the battery isn’t depleted

If terminal is connected to AC power, disconnect

Perform a warm boot -

Unsaved data will be lost

Perform a cold boot -

factory default settings and data will be lost

Make sure scanning application is loaded and operational

Run “Scanner Setting” program to modify barcode read setting

Bar code might be distorted and should be replaced
