INSTRUCTION MANUAL
Original manual. The product complies with Directive
2006/42/CE.
The Ultra Reef UCS range of calcium reactor integrates
and maintains the level of calcium and alkalinity within
an aquarium. The reactor is filled with calcium-based
media and continuously filled with aquarium water
that flows out slowly. Using the CO2 provided by the
connected vessel, it lowers the pH of the water that
recirculate in its interior to the point of dissolution of
the medium, which slowly consumes and release
carbonate and calcium ions (and other elements)
constantly in the aquarium.
Warning: The use of the product involves reading,
understanding and acceptance of all conditions set
forth in the "Safety" manual attached. If you do not
find that manual immediately, contact our office!
Clean thoroughly with water and vinegar (diluted to
10%) each component that will go into contact with
water. Products that contains alcohol or solvents can
damage the acrylic.
OVERVIEW
Warning: Install the reactor inside the sump tank.
Connect the reactor only to CO2 cylinders suitable for
aquarium use and certified to comply with local laws.
Before perform installation, prepare the medium.
Follow the preparation instructions provided by the
supplier of the media.
Warning: This manual uses term "media" to indicate
the filling material of the reactor. It is suggested to use
a media consisting of coarse coral sand, size 10-20
mm, carefully washed.
Remove the top cover and place the reactor inside the
tank sump. Spill into reactor earlier prepared media
and close the cover, without forgetting the gasket.
START
When connecting hose insert the hose into the fitting
and push it to the end. To remove it, push down the
security ring and at same time pull the hose. Connect
the pipes as shown:
1. Water load hose H2O IN
2. CO2 IN load hose
3. Water drain hose H2O OUT
4. Air vent hose O2 OUT
Water load H2O IN:
Use the supplied fittings to
connect the water load hose to an existing pipeline or
by installing a dedicated pump (suggested around
1500 lit / h).
Warning: Install a non-return valve (not supplied) on
the CO2 load hose to prevent backflow of water into
the cylinder or its valve.
Warning: NEVER operate the reactor with fully closed
drain valve.
PH Probe:
The use of a PH probe, relative controller
and solenoid valve is optional. For the use of a PH
probe, refer to the probe and solenoid valve controller
manual.
For more information, ask to your trusted
retailer.
To start the reactor:
1.
Remove the plug on the air vent hose.
2.
Connect the water inlet (or start the pump load)
of the reactor. Once the chamber is filled, the
water will begin to overflow from the air vent
hose and drain hose.
3.
Loosen the upper connector on the bubble
counter and fill it with water.
4.
Shake gently the reactor in order to release the air
bubbles trapped in the sand.
5.
Replace the plug on the air vent hose and check
that the reactor discharges only water from
drainpipe.
6.
Start the reactors pump.
7.
Close off the output valve until you get a flow of
between 1 and 2 l/h.
8.
Open the carbon dioxide cylinder valve and adjust
the output pressure of 0.1 bar.
9.
Verify the release of CO2 into the reactor through
the bubble counter.
SETTING
If air should accumulate in the reactor, remove the
plug on the air vent hose and release it out.
Manual calibration:
Act on the control valve of the
CO2 until you get a flow of about one bubble per
second.
PH controller calibration:
Act on control valve of the
CO2 until you get a flow of about 2 bubbles per
second. Calibrate the controller so that it closes the
solenoid valve when it detects a pH of about 6.80.
