d. If necessary, to remove the adapter block
from the housing, refer to Paragraph 4.3.
3.4. Terminate and Route the Fiber
ALWAYS wear eye protectionwhenworking with
optical fibers. NEVER look into the end of a
terminated or unterminated fiber. Laser radiation
is invisible but can damage eye tissue. NEVER
eat, drink, or smoke when working with fibers.
This could lead to ingestion of fiber particles.
IMPORTANT:
Follow approved local grounding
procedures, and conform to local requirements.
Use the following guidelines when routing the fiber in
the enclosure. Whatever method is used, make sure
that it not only meets the application needs, but also
conforms to local codes and standards:
S
Allow enough fiber in the enclosure for routing
S
Keep bend radii of fiber as large as possible
(always follow manufacturer’s minimum bend
radius)
DO NOT exceed minimum bend radii for the
fiber. ALWAYS avoid placing fiber under tension
or torsion.
Proceed as follows:
1. For fiber applications, terminate the fibers onto
connectors according to the instructions included
with the connectors.
BE VERY CAREFUL to dispose of fiber ends
properly. The fibers create slivers that caneasily
puncture the skin and cause irritation.
2. Route the fiber through the cutout in the back of
the tray. Make sure that at least 305 [12.0] of fiber
is inside the enclosure.
3. Remove the dust covers from the connectors.
Retain the dust covers. Join the connections to the
appropriate connections.
4. Coil excess fiber onto the tray, and secure the
fiber to the tie–down brackets using cable ties. See
Figure 7.
3.5. Inspect and Close the Enclosure
1. Record connector positions using the
identification card.
2. Inspect installation according to the following:
— enclosure is secure to rack (pan head screws
are tight)
— fiber is not nicked or broken
— excess fiber is coiled and secured to
tie–down brackets
