2.1.3.1 FRAMER
The framer synchronizes TU output to frame alignment with the DACS. The DACS switches both DS0
data and the associated control signals. Control signals are used by voice interfaces to manage on-
hook, off-hook and ring signals. Groomed output from the DACS that contain voice interface signals
are switched through the “Framer” before connection to the E1/T1 Mapper. The Framer combines the
separate control signals with the groomed Channel Associated Signaling E1/T1 stream. Framer
operation is transparent to the administrator, other than configuration of the type of CAS signaling.
2.1.4 DYNAMIC PACKET PATH TRIBUTARIES
The tier one, tier three and fractional tributaries described above, operate over fixed trunk bandwidth
independent of utilization. The dynamic packet path tributary provides dynamic allocation of negotiated
trunk bandwidth based on the demands of the packet Ethernet tributary interfaces. The dual port
Ethernet 10/100BaseT tributary interface must connect to the Ethernet Mapper that negotiates the
SDH/SONET trunk bandwidth.
2.2 MAPPER MODULES
The TE-50-SS has been factory configured by Turin with one, two or three “mapper” modules. Mapper
modules provide the encapsulation of tributary circuits to SDH Virtual Container (VC) or SONET Virtual
Tributary (VT) mapping resource. The mappers available are:

28 port E1/T1
•
3 port E3/T3
•
8 port 10/100BaseT Ethernet
The TE-50-SS has the ability to house three mapper modules. Please refer to the configuration sheet
for supported combinations of mappers and total numbers of tributary ports.
2.2.1 E1T1 MAPPER
The TE-50-MAP-E1T1 28 port E1/T1 mapper operates as a 28 x port E1 mapper or a 28 x port T1
mapper.
Both E1 and T1 tributaries can be supported by a single mapper. The combined total of E1 and T1 is
limited to a maximum of 28 ports.
One, two, or three E1T1 mapper modules may be installed.
The TE-50-SS supports mapping of T1 streams into VC and VT containers normally used for E1
streams. That is:

2.2.2 DS3E3 MAPPER
The TE-50-160-MAP-DS3E3 3 port E3/DS3 mapper operates as a 3 x port E3 mapper or a 3 x port
DS3 mapper.
