MANAGEMENT OF CAR—
The Engine
of a steady pressure will synchronise the gears and the resistance will be overcome
as the driving dogs slide into engagement.
The gear lever must always be moved right home to secure full engagement.
Do not attempt to engage reverse gear whilst the car is travelling forward.
Using the Brakes
The four wheel hydraulic brakes are very powerful and require only a small effort to
slow down the car. Do not apply the brakes harshly except in emergency as this
only causes undue tyre wear and discomfort to passengers.
Engine as a Brake
When travelling downhill using the engine as a brake,
i.e.,
with gear engaged,
do
not switch off the ignition.
This
would allow unburnt mixture to accumulate in the
exhaust
system, and when switching on again, there is a likelihood
of an explosion
with consequent damage to the system.
