Operating Thermostat Replacement

Removal of the Thermostat

1. Disconnect electrical power supply to the

Combination Heater

2. Disengage the top jacket panel from the side

jacket panels using an upward force along the
front edge of the top panel.

3. Remove the front jacket panel by placing a slot-

ted screwdriver between the front panel and the
side jacket panels and using a twist motion.

Use extreme care as not to damage or scratch
the jacket panels with the screwdriver when
removing the front jacket panel.

4.  Remove the (4) locking pins along the corners

of the front control panel.  On the PERFOR-
MANCE units remove the air inlet mounting
screw along the front edge of the control panel.

5. Lay the front control panel forward to expose

the transformer and control wiring.

6.  Using the wire cutters remove any wire ties

along the existing Thermostat capillary tubing.

7.  For ease of replacement label or note each wire

and it’s location on the Thermostat prior to
removal of any wire leads.

8.  Remove the wire leads from the Thermostat ter-

minals using pliers to prevent damage to the
wire leads.

9.  Use a slotted screwdriver to remove the knob

from the Thermostat.

10. Use a #3 Phillips screwdriver to remove the left

Thermostat mounting screw.

11. Use a slotted screwdriver to remove the “stop

pin” mounting screw.  The Thermostat can now
be remove from the backside of the front con-
trol panel.

12. Remove the sensing bulb from the drywell

locations.  

-  The Secondary (domestic) thermostat sens-

ing bulb is located in a drywell at the
domestic hot water outlet.
- The Primary (space heating) thermostat
sensing bulb is located in a drywell in front
of the domestic cold water inlet.

Installation of the Thermostat

1. Insert the new sensing bulb into the same loca-

tion as the existing bulb.  Ensure the bulb is
position at the bottom of the drywell.

2.  Mount the new Thermostat onto the front con-

trol panel through the backside of the panel.
Ensure the terminals of the Thermostat are ori-
entated downward.

3.  Position the indication ring onto the front con-

trol panel so the indication mark is at the top of
the ring. See Fig. 1

4. Use the mounting screws to secure the

Thermostat and indicator ring to the front con-
trol panel using the Phillips screw and the “stop
pin” slotted screw.  Ensure the “stop pin” screw
is position to the right. See Fig. 1

5. Turn the Thermostat stem counter-clockwise

fully and re-insert the knob.

6.  Attach the wire leads to the Thermostat termi-

nals in the proper order.  Ensure all leads are
securely attached to the terminals.

7.  Re-install the front control panel using the lock-

ing pins to secure the panel into place.
