6. SETUP
CAUTION
This spacer (2) must be fitted to the ram rod (1) before
using the tirfor
®
machine (fig 19).
1. Anchor the unit using its hook
(TU16A)
or pin
(TU32A)
depending on the model (Figs. 20-m and
22-a) to an appropriate fixed point using a sling.
2. Check that the release handle (Figs. 20-b and 22-g)
is in the “open” position (A) (Figs. 17 and 18).
3. Insert the cable through the hole in the unit located
at the end opposite that of the anchoring device
(hook or pin) (Figs. 20-k and 22-i)
4. When the cable comes out on the side of the
anchoring device, tension it as much as possibly by
hand between the hoist and the load to be lifted or
pulled.
5. Place the release handle (Figs. 20-b and 22-g) in the
“closed” position (B) (Figs. 17 and 18).
CAUTION
The release handle (1) can only be moved to the “open”
position (A) or “closed” position (B) by pressing the
safety button (2) (Figs. 17 and 18).

7. OPERATING THE HOIST
THE TU16A AND TU32A HOISTS
CAN ONLY BE OPERATED
BY A SINGLE OPERATOR.
FORWARD OR UP OPERATION:
TU16A
1. Place the self-reversing cylinder (FIg. 20-e) between
the flange (FIg. 20-i) and the forward operating lever
(FIg. 20-a) using the locking keys (FIg. 21-n).
2. Connect the compressed air hose from the console
to the quick-connector (FIg. 20-f) on the cylinder.
3. Connect the console to the available compressed air
system.
4. Actuate the “dead man” lever (FIg. 20-h).
5. The operator must intentionally hold the lever
in position to operate the TU16A; if the lever is
released, the system immediately stops.
TU32A
1. Close the master valve (FIg. 22-h).
2. Open the purge valve (FIg. 22-f).
3. At this stage, the cylinder is open and the connecting
rod (Fig. 22-c) can be moved easily. Secure the
connecting rod with its pin in position (b) on the
forward gear lever.
4. Close the purge valve (FIg. 22-f).
5.
Connect the compressed air hose to the
control handle.
6. Open the master valve (FIg. 22-h).
7. The connection is made and the device is now ready
for operation. Press or release the control handle
placed on the compressed air hose to stop or start
the device.
REVERSE OR DOWN OPERATION:
TU16A
1. Close the compressed air valve.
2. Disconnect the compressed air hose from the quick-
connector (FIg. 20-f).
3. Position the self-reversing cylinder (FIg. 20-e)
between the flange (FIg. 20-i) and the “reverse” lever
(FIg. 20-c) using the locking keys (FIg. 21-n).
4. Connect the compressed air hose to the quick-
connectors (FIg. 20-f)
5. Open the compressed air valve
6. Actuate the “dead man” lever (FIg. 20-h).
7. The operator must intentionally hold the lever
in position to operate the TU16A ; if the lever is
released, the system immediately stops.
TU32A
1. Close the master valve (FIg. 22-h).
2. Open the purge valve (FIg. 22-f).
3. At this stage, the cylinder is open and the connecting
rod (Fig. 22-c) can be moved easily. During these
operations, the tirfor
®
remains locked and loaded
without any danger. Remove the securing pin from
the connecting rod in position (b).
4. Secure the connecting rod with its pin in position (d)
on the reverse gear lever.
5. Close the purge valve (FIg. 22-f).
6. Open the master valve (FIg. 22-h).
7. The device is ready for operation. Press or release
the control handle placed on the compressed air
hose to stop or start the device.
