Adjusting the IMAGE SHAPE feature
The IMAGE SHAPE feature allows you to adjust the shape of the
image when viewing 16:9 (widescreen) content from an external
device (for example, a DVD player). This feature enables you to watch
16:9 content in the highest possible resolution (when you select
“16:9” mode in step 2, below).

To adjust the image shape:
1. Press PIC SIZE on the remote control. The SET UP menu opens
and IMAGE SHAPE is highlighted.

You also can use the menu system to adjust the IMAGE SHAPE.

• NORMAL—Displays the picture in normal/conventional 4:3
format, regardless of the signal type.
To use the NORMAL IMAGE SHAPE mode, you must first adjust your
DVD player’s menu settings to normal/conventional TV mode (4:3
aspect ratio).
• 16:9—Compresses the signal to letterbox (16:9) mode (with
bars at the top and bottom of the screen), regardless of the
signal type.
To use the 16:9 IMAGE SHAPE mode, you must first adjust your DVD
player’s menu settings to widescreen TV mode (16:9 aspect ratio).
The 16:9 IMAGE SHAPE mode is not available when viewing an
antenna signal source.
Note:
•
The factory (default) setting for the IMAGE
SHAPE feature is “NORMAL.”
•
Aspect ratio is the ratio of width to height of
your TV screen or of the image you are
viewing.

NOTICE OF POSSIBLE ADVERSE
EFFECTS ON TV PICTURE TUBE
Avoid displaying stationary images on
your TV screen for extended periods of
time. Fixed (non-moving) images (such
as black or gray bars on widescreen/16:9
format images) can become permanently
engrained in the picture tube.
This type
of damage is NOT COVERED BY
YOUR WARRANTY because it is the
result of misuse.
