Removing the Battery
1.
Disengage the power take off (PTO), set the
parking brake, lower the attachment lift, and turn
the ignition key to “STOP” to stop the engine.
Remove the key.
2.
Open the hood.
3.
Remove the battery hold–down brackets
(Fig. 50).
4.
Disconnect the negative (black) ground cable
from the battery post (Fig. 50).
5.
Disconnect the positive (red) cable from the
battery post (Fig. 50).
6.
Remove the battery by lifting it up and out of the
engine compartment.
IMPORTANT: Always hold the battery
vertical to avoid spilling battery acid.
POTENTIAL HAZARD
•
The battery terminals could short against
the metal tractor components.
WHAT CAN HAPPEN
•
Sparks can cause the battery gasses to
explode.
HOW TO AVOID THE HAZARD
•
When removing or installing the battery, do
not allow the battery terminals to touch any
metal parts of the tractor.
•
Always keep the battery hold–down
brackets in place to secure the battery.

Installing the Battery
1.
Place the battery onto the chassis (Fig. 50).
2.
Install the battery hold–down brackets.
3.
Connect and tighten the positive (red) cable to
the positive (+) battery post (Fig. 50).
4.
Connect and tighten the negative (black) cable to
the negative (–) battery post (Fig. 50).
