Checking the Engine-Oil Level
Service Interval:
Before each use or daily
Note:
The best time to check the engine oil is when
the engine is cool before it has been started for the
day. If it has already ran, allow the oil to drain back
down to the sump for at least 10 minutes before
checking. If the oil level is at or below the Add mark
on the dipstick, add oil to bring the oil level to the Full
mark.
Do not overfill the engine with oil.
If the oil
level is between the Full and Add marks, no additional
oil is required.
1.
Park the machine on a level surface.
2.
Engage the parking brake.
3.
Shut off the engine and remove the key.
4.
Remove the dipstick and wipe it with a clean rag
(
).

it seats fully (
6.
Remove dipstick and check the oil level (
7.
If the oil level is low, remove the filler cap (
), and add enough oil to raise the level to the
Full mark on the dipstick.
Note:
When adding oil, remove dipstick to
allow proper venting. Pour the oil slowly and
check the level often during this process.
Do
not overfill the engine with oil.
Important:
When adding engine oil or filling
oil, there must be clearance between the oil
fill device and the oil fill hole in the valve
cover as shown in
. This clearance
is necessary to permit venting when filling,
which prevents oil from overrunning into the
breather.
