After an emergency call (no matter whether it was taken, it was not
successful, it was terminated) the phone will take any new calls
automatically and go to hands free mode. This way contact to the
helpless person is still possible even when the emergency call was
already terminated. To exit this function the phone must be com-
pletely switched off and then on again.
Problem answering machine
The phone cannot detect whether the emergency call was taken by a
person, an answering machine, or a fax machine.
In case the call was taken by e.g. an answering machine the current
call can be terminated by pressing the hang-up key. The phone will
then dial the next emergency phone number.
In case an answering machine gets a message which is not loud and
clear it will in most cases hang up after a few seconds. Since the
phone will continue the emergency function even after a call was
taken calling the next emergency call number will still happen even
when the first call was taken by an answering machine and the help-
less person did not or could not press the hang-up key. It can, how-
ever, not be ruled out that there are answering machines that already
with some louder background noise will detect this as voice and will
not hang up.
That's why you should make sure that with entered emergency call
numbers these numbers do not have any answering machines or fax
machines.
Testing the emergency call function
After setting up the emergency call function test it thoroughly. This
test should be done together, i.e. the owner/user of the device to-
gether with the persons whose phone numbers have been entered as
emergency phone numbers.
