Some models may take up to 60 seconds to begin to lase (typically the 7" versions). If the laser
has not started lasing 20 seconds after turning the power on, you can turn the unit off and then
back on again. This will not damage the laser. Be sure to give enough time to allow the CDRH
safety delay to elapse before turning the system off and on.
5.1. Alignment
Procedure
During shipment or rough handling, the Thorlabs model HRP350 and HRP350-EC laser may become
slightly misaligned and suffer a reduction in output power. The following procedure should be used to
optimize the laser alignment.
Tools Required
•
(2) 1/16" Allen Wrench
•
(1) Optical Power Meter
Procedure
1)
Locate the two access holes for the alignment screws. These are located on the side of the
housing approximately 175 mm from the rear, at the top edge of the side label.
2)
Insert one Allen key into each access hole and set up the optical power meter to monitor the laser
output power. Carefully tighten one of the adjustment screws only enough to produce a
measurable change in the laser output power. If the laser power increases, continue to tighten the
screw until a maximum in the laser output is observed. If the laser power decreases, loosen the
screw until the laser is at a maximum power. Repeat this procedure for the second adjustment
screw. In cases where large adjustments are made, it may be necessary to repeat this procedure a
second time in order to obtain the optimal performance.
WARNING
Avoid Exposure – Use of controls or adjustments or performance of procedures other than
those specified herein may result in hazardous radiation exposure. (FDA caution statement
21 CAR 1040.10(h)(1)(IV)). It will also void your warranty.
WARNING
Unauthorized modifications to the laser or power supply may cause irreversible damage to
the system, as well as result in possible hazardous radiation exposure. These modifications
will also void all warranties. Repairs to such modified equipment will be charged at the
current repair rate, plus the cost of any required parts.
