MAINTENANCE MANUAL
4.
RVSM Skin Waviness Inspection
NOTE:
This inspection is only applicable to airplanes certified for RVSM (Reduced Vertical Separation
Minimum).
NOTE:
This procedure is done at the intervals shown in Chapter 5, and after the airplane is painted
or any other maintenance which is done that could cause an unacceptable condition in the
inspection area.
A.
Complete the RVSM Skin Waviness Inspection (Refer to Figure 601).
(1)
Visually examine the areas (right and left sides of the airplane) shown in Figure 601 for waviness,
scratches, and repairs done before.
(2)
Make sure the full inspection area meets the requirements of Zone 1 local contour. Refer to
Model 525B Structural Repair Manual, Chapter 51, Aerodynamic Surfaces.
(3)
Repair any differences with the standard procedures found in the Model 525B Structural Repair
Manual, Chapter 51, Aerodynamic Surfaces.
(4)
Visually examine a 3.00 inch (76.2 mm) radius area around each static heater port for paint
stripes or stencils.
(a)
Make sure the static ports are clean and the edge of the port openings are free of damage
and in good condition.
1
Make sure that blocked, dirty, corroded, or irregular ports are cleaned, repaired, and/
or replaced as necessary.
(5)
Straightedge test.
(a)
Use a six inch (152.4 mm) straightedge and a feeler gage with a maximum width of 0.50
inch (12.7 mm) to examine the static heater port area to find if the static port area is
acceptable as shown in Figure 601.
(b)
Center the straightedge at the approximate center of the applicable static heater port
opening.
(c)
Align the straightedge parallel to the approximate airplane waterline as shown in Figure
601.
(d)
Try to put a 0.002 inch (0.05 mm) feeler gauge between the airplane skin and the center
of the straightedge.
1
If the feeler gauge will not fit, continue to the Aft Edge Check.
(e)
Make sure the static port is centered in the low area. If it is not it will need to be replaced.
(f)
If the measurement is 0.025 inch (0.635 mm) or less, the static port area is acceptable.
1
This inspection is complete.
(g)
If the measurement is more than 0.025 inch (0.635 mm) the static port area is
unsatisfactory.
1
Repair the static port area.
(6)
Aft Edge Check.
NOTE:
This test is only necessary if the 0.002 inch (0.05 mm) feeler gage will not fit at
the static port.
(a)
Check the static port and make sure that:
1
If the static port is on a high area, it has to be centered on the high area.
2
If the static port is not centered on the high area, replace the static port.
(b)
Push the forward edge of the straightedge tightly against the aircraft skin.
(c)
Put the feeler gauge(s) between the airplane skin and the aft 0.50 inch (13 mm) of the
straightedge end.
1
If the measurement is 0.005 inch (0.13 mm) or less, the static port area is satisfactory.
2
If the measurement is more than 0.005 inch (0.13 mm) or less, the static port area is
unsatisfactory and must be repaired.
