Steam Iron IW1

IRONING TEMPERATURES

Check the ironing instructions attached to the article to be ironed (they are on a
label showing a symbol of an iron). Always follow these instructions. The
indications on the iron’s temperature dial and the table below will help you.
If there are no ironing instructions but you know the fabric, then use the table
below. The table is valid only for the actual materials and does not take into
account of any finish which may have been applied to the fabric. Textiles to which
a finish has been applied (glass, wrinkle relief,  printed T-shirts etc.) should be
ironed at somewhat lower temperatures.
If the fabric consists of mixed fibres, always select the lowest ironing temperature
of the composition, e.g. a 60% polyester/40% cotton mix should be ironed at the
temperature for polyester.
In all cases, any ironing instructions on the garment override the guidance given in
the table.

Garments may be damaged if ironed at too high a temperature.

Sort fabrics into groups according to temperature; wool with wool, cotton with
cotton, etc. Start by ironing articles requiring low temperature settings and progress
to higher ones.

Note:

Do not iron garments that are dirty or stained. The iron’s heat may set the

stain.
Pure wool fabric (100% wool) may be pressed with the iron set to a steam position
and the wool surface protected by a dry cotton cloth.

Do not iron

Synthetics, Nylon,
Acrylics, Polyester, Rayon

Wool, Silk

Cotton, Linen

AFTER USING THE IRON

Cleaning

To remove starch or other deposits from the soleplate, apply a small amount of
mild cleaner to a damp cloth, forming a paste on the cloth. Gently rub the
soleplate, then wipe with a damp cloth.
The body of the iron may now be cleaned with a barely damp cloth and then dried
thoroughly. Do not wet the iron body, cord or mains plug.

CAUTION

: Never use scouring pads, abrasives or harsh cleaners on the iron body

or the soleplate as this may scratch the surface.

Anti-Scale

The iron is fitted with an anti-scale cartridge which will reduce the build-up of
limescale that occurs during steam ironing. This will prolong the life of the iron.

Self Cleaning

The anti-scale cartridge will not completely stop the build-up of scale. The following
procedure should therefore be carried out at least once a month, or more often in
hard water areas:
• Half fill the iron with cool water and place the iron on its heel in an upright

position.

• Plug the iron into a mains supply and switch it on.
• Set the temperature to MAX.
• When the iron has reached the MAX temperature setting, carefully press and

hold the both the up and down arrow buttons on the temperature control panel
for two seconds. This will switch the iron off.

• Turn off the power at the mains supply and unplug the iron.
• Carefully, with one hand on the handle and the other hand on the variable

steam control, hold the iron horizontally over a sink.

• Turn and hold the variable steam control at the     (descaling) position.
• Steam and boiling water will drain from the soleplate, washing away the scale

and minerals that have built up inside the iron.

• Gently shake the iron back and forth until the water tank is empty.
• When self-cleaning is complete, release the variable steam control.
• Place the steam iron back on its heel rest and allow it to fully cool down.
• Wipe the soleplate with a cold damp cloth.

Storage

Unplug the iron from the mains and allow it to fully cool before pouring away any
excess water and putting it away. Store the iron on its heel, with the power cord
very loosely coiled up. Do NOT tightly wrap the power cord around the iron, as it
can become damaged and expose the live conductors.

PLEASE SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS.

Auto Shut-off

The iron is equipped with an Auto Shut-off safety feature. While switched on, if left
immobile the iron will automatically switch itself off:

If left immobile in a horizontal position, the iron will switch itself off after 16 to
39 seconds. Note that you should not rely on this feature and the iron should
be stood in an upright position in between use.

If left immobile in a vertical position (i.e. on its heel), the iron will switch itself off
after 5 to 10 minutes.

While the iron is in Auto Shut-off mode, the      symbol on the temperature control
panel will flash.
If the iron is moved, it will switch back on.
