Depending on the width of the fireplace mantel, it may
be installed higher or lower from the top of the fireplace
opening.  See the drawing and chart for proper installa-
tion height of your combustible mantelpiece.  Noncom-
bustible mantels may be installed at any height above
the fireplace opening.

When using materials around the face of the fireplace,
these materials must be suitable to withstand the
temperatures which they will encounter.  Framing
specification for allowable combustibles for surround
applications are shown at right.

If  the material used for surround is not flush with the
face of the unit then the optional surround kits will not
fit properly.

It is preferred that any material used to surround the
face of the fireplace be noncombustible (i.e. ceramic
tile, brick, natural stone, etc.).  Combustible materials
such as drywall, are permissible.

Materials such as cultured marble or other synthetic
materials are not recommended as they may discolor,
warp or create odor as a result of exposure the tem-
peratures of the front of the fireplace.

NOTE: when using paint or lacquer to finish the
mantel, such paint or lacquer must be heat resistant
(250

F) to prevent discoloration.

Materials such as cultured marble or other synthetic
materials are not recommended as they may discolor,

temperatures of the front of the fireplace.
