Concatenating Encoders and
Decoders

Concatenating is used to fully utilise the STM-1 capacity. The
ATM bitrate output from one Encoder can vary between 3,4
Mbps…18 Mbps, which leaves available capacity for other
services when inserted into 155 Mbps STM-1 data stream.
This gap can be fi lled by daisy-chaining several Encoders in
the same ATM loop.

Recommendations for concatenating is max. twenty (20)
devices (Encoders, Decoders or mixture of both) per one
STM-1/OC-3 loop. The maximum calculated bitrate for all
services (note also all return audio and data channels)
together should not exceed 120 Mbps in one loop.

Data broadcasting

Data broadcasting can be used in special applications.
