3. Slide the stepper motor assembly slightly toward the dis-

tributor shaft to disengage it from the timing belt and
remove it.

4. Remove the two screws holding the optical sensor in place.

5. Slide the sensor away from the index disk and remove, tak-

ing care not to scrape it against the index disk.

Note

The optical sensor is fragile. Set it aside so that it does not get
broken. Inspect the sensor and replace if broken.

6. Remove the three large screws holding the cover plate in

place. Remove the plate to expose the timing belt.

7. The timing belt, distributor shaft assembly, and band gas-

ket simply lift out of the base.
