Pump operates

1. Pressure switch

1. Readjust switch to lower shut-off pressure setting.

properly, but

Clean contacts or replace switch

won’t shut off

2. Low water level

2. Throttle pump output at gate valve or readjust

pressure switch to lower shut-off pressure setting

3. Leak in drop pipe or worn pump

3. Throttle pump output at gate valve or readjust

pressure switch to lower shut-off pressure setting.
If pump does not shut off, pump must be raised
and defect repaired

Pump starts too

1. Pressure switch

1. Readjust switch to wider operating pressure limits.

often

Replace defective switch

2. Air volume in tank incorrect

2. Shut pump off, drain tank completely. Restart unit;

if tank waterlogs again within a few days, clean or
replace air volume control, used on standard tanks.
Precharged, fixed diaphragm or bladder

3. Check valve defect or leak in

3. Throttle pump output at gate valve. If pump does

General Procedures

1. Disconnect line

(Power to control

2. Inspect for damaged or burned parts, loose connections, etc.

box disconnected)

3. Check for misconnections against diagram in control box
4. If box is too hot, circuit breakers may trip or fuses blow. Ventilate or shade box.

Move away from heat source

5. If problem has not been found, check motor and control box. Use test procedures

that follow

Ground (Insulation

1. Ohmmeter Setting: Highest scale (usually Rx100K or Rx10,000)

Resistance) Test

2. Terminal Connections: One ohmmeter lead to “Ground” screw on control box and touch

(Power to control

other lead to each of the terminals on terminal board

box disconnected)

3. Ohmmeter Reading: Pointer should remain at infinity (

) and not deflect

Risk of electrical shock.
Short capacitor across terminals before testing.

Capacitor Tests

1. Ohmmeter Setting: Rx1000

(Power to control

2. Terminal connections: Connect ohmmeter leads to black and orange wires out of capacitor case

box disconnected)

3. Ohmmeter Reading: Pointer should swing toward “zero” and “float” back to (

). Capacitor

is shorted if pointer does not move back to (

), open if it does move from (

)

4. To retest capacitor, reverse ohmmeter connection to capacitor terminals

Triac Test

1. Ohmmeter Setting: Rx1000

(Solid state

2. Connect the leads to “R” (start) terminal and to orange lead on start switch

switch only)

3. Ohmmeter Reading: Infinity (

)

Coil Test

1. Ohmmeter Setting: Rx1

(Solid state

2. Connect leads to “Y” (common) and L2 terminal and to orange lead terminal on start switch

switch only)

3. Ohmmeter Reading: Infinity (

)
