5.2.7 Installing and machine balancing - (vertical flange)
When mounting the machine on a vertical flange the machine must be balanced.
Failure to balance the machine correctly will result in poor surface finishes,
damaged tool bits, and premature wear on the drive system.
CAUTION: WHEN LIFTING ANY EQUIPMENT FROM THE HORIZONTAL
POSITION INTO THE VERTICAL POSITION, SAFE AND SUITABLE LIFTING
TECHNIQUES MUST BE APPLIED TO AVOID ANY SHOCK LOADING THAT
MAY BE APPLIED TO THE MACHINE AND LIFTING EQUIPMENT.
CAUTION: WHEN LIFTING THE BASE ASSEMBLY IN POSITION ON A
VERTICAL FLANGE ALWAYS ATTACH THE LIFTING CABLE TO THE LUG
PROVIDED (REPLACES ONE EXTENSION LEG REF FIG. 17).
WARNING: WHEN POSITIONING THE BASE WITHIN THE BORE TAKE CARE
TO AVOID TRAPPING HANDS OR FINGERS.
1. Position the toolpost over the area about to be machined. Pass the two threaded
studs, supplied in the kit, through the mounting bosses and secure in a position
so that the protruding stud does not foul the work piece as the machine rotates
(Fig 18). Attach the largest weights near to the end of the studs. Manually rotate
the arm to check balance. Add and adjust the weights until the arm stops in any
position around the flange. When the air is connected, listen for an uneven tone
from the motors at 12 o'clock as the arm or the weights go over centre. Adjust if
necessary.
