TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY
Remove and Install
1. Make sure the key-switch is in the “OFF” position, then remove
the key.
2. Place the forward-reverse switch in the center “OFF” position.
3. Set the park brake.
4. Place blocks under the front wheels to prevent vehicle movement.
5. Disconnect the main positive and negative cables at the batteries.
6. Release the park brake.
7. Remove the park brake cables from the spring axle
mounting brackets and brake arms.
8. Disconnect the wiring from the motor.
9. Disconnect the hydraulic brake lines from the left and
right brake bodies.
10. Remove the nuts from the left and right side lower spring
hanger bolts. Do not remove the bolts at this time.
11. Raise the rear of the vehicle just high enough so that
there is no tension on the spring hanger bolts. Do not remove the bolts at this time.
12. Remove the four u-bolts holding the spring to the axle tubes.
13. Remove the two lower spring hanger bolts and raise the vehicle high enough to remove the
drive and support the frame with jack stands.
Always use a lifting strap, hoist, and jack stands, of adequate capacity
to lift and support the vehicle. Failure to use lifting and support devices
of rated load capacity may result in severe bodily injury.
14. Install the transmission assembly in reverse order of removal.
a. Bleed the brake system. Refer to section
Brake Service
for information regarding bleeding
the brakes.
b. Adjust the park brake. Refer to section
Brake Service
for information regarding adjusting
the park brake.
15. Lower the vehicle and set the park brake
17. Reconnect the main positive and negative cables at the batteries.
18. Remove the blocks from behind the wheels
19. Release the park brake and test drive the vehicle.
