Engine Belt Tension
Belt Tension :
Check the condition of belts on the engine. Examine the edges of the
belt for cracks or fraying.
Check the tension of the belt by pushing on it with your thumb midway
between the pulleys for the alternator belt, power steering pump belt
and A.C. compressor belt. If the belt tension is not proper i.e. it gets
deflected more than specified, get it attended to at the nearest
Authorised Service outlet.
Belt tension adjustment :
a.
Loosen bottom mounting bolt of the alternator.
b.
Loosen bolt holding upper mounting of alternator to the clamping
piece.
c.
Loosen the lock nut.
d.
Adjust belt tension by turning the adjusting nut i.e. by turning
the alternator away from the engine.
e.
Tighten lock nut and the bolt holding the clamping piece to
alternator.
f.
Tighten bottom mounting bolt.
g.
Recheck belt tension.
